An up-and-coming ADR professional, Nikisha Thapar has received her training in dispute resolution and adjudication through York University, Osgoode Professional Development and the Toronto Commercial Arbitration Society.
At the age of 19, she became the youngest person in Canada to achieve qualified designations in adjudication, arbitration and mediation:
Throughout her undergraduate studies, she facilitated conflict resolution through non-profit organizations and on boards and committees, such as the John Howard Society of Ontario, the Student Charter of Rights & Responsibilities Committee and the Trent Central Student Association Committee.
In 2021, Nikisha graduated from Trent University with a B.A. in Gender and Social Justice Studies. During her time there, Nikisha received many academic and community service-based awards including:
In 2022, Nikisha became involved in Western University's Dispute Resolution Centre (DRC) as a Student Director, and by 2023, she was hired back as the Lead Student Director. During this time, she developed mediation workshops, coordinated student facilitators, trained interns and provided mediation and dispute resolution workshops.
In March 2024, Nikisha won the prestigious JSD Tory Writing Award at the 2024 Canadian Law Student Conference,
Nikisha is currently pursuing a law degree in Ontario, and will be joining Toronto's Cambridge LLP in July 2024. She is a proud member of ADRIO (Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario) and ADRIC (Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Canada).
Nikisha’s passions outside of academia and the realm of Alternative Dispute Resolution include mentorship, reading, swimming, hiking, knitting, crotcheting and social advocacy.
